For an experience that is both hyperlocal and tests the boundaries of the universe, I recommend a visit to the Prelinger Library in Soma. It's unlike any library in the traditional sense: Privately run for the last 20 years, and comprising printed material of the ephemeral sort (ads, brochures, pamphlets, personal book collections) that is organized loosely by spatial dimensions, it resists classification and invites discovery. It's rare to experience this kind of wonder and randomness anymore, and to wit, the library's slogan is “Free speech, fear free.”
